The Globe on Tour present "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare this August at The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle...

Rather than having to travel to London to see a Globe production, the world famous Shakespeares Globe are coming to you at The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle, with a new production of Shakespeares delightful comedy As You Like it, between 10th and 13th August as part of its 2011 UK tour. Directed by James Dacre, a small troupe of actors will present a stripped down version of Shakespeares enchanting play in this beautiful theatre, reviving the old Globe principle of outdoor playing.

Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, falls in love with Orlando at a wrestling match, but her usurping uncle, jealous of her popularity, banishes her from court. Disguised as a boy she seeks out her father and his friends in the Forest of Arden. Here she meets Orlando again, and under the guise of a young man, counsels him in the art of love. As You Like It runs the glorious gamut of pastoral romance: cross-dressing and love notes; poetry and brilliant conversation; gentle satire and slapstick comedy.

A handful of travelling players breathe new life into this firm favourite among Shakespeares comedies, evoking the touring tradition of the Globes forefathers. So pack your picnic rugs and sun-cream (or waterproofs and a hot-toddy) and join the troupe of travelling players while they bring to life one of Shakespeares most popular comedies.
