The Grand at Folkestone was the venue for the town's first, and the world's largest, celebration of Dr Syn at a two-week exhibition showcasing the work of Kent artist Terry Anthony.

The Grand at Folkestone was the venue for the towns first, and the worlds largest, celebration of Dr Syn at a two-week exhibition showcasing the work of Kent artist Terry Anthony. It was opened by actor and producer Marc Sinden, whose father Sir Donald Sinden is also a fan of the infamous vicar, pirate, smuggler and local legend Terry has painted for 15 years. It was his love of the character, created by Russell Thorndike, that prompted The Grands manager, Robert Richardson, to set up the exhibition, which raised just under 1,000 for the East Kent Child Witness Support charity. He hopes to make this an annual event. Many fans turned up for the launch, including the current Vicar of Dymchurch, who now plans to hold a similar exhibition in September at St Nicholas church, called Syn on the Marsh.
