Future chefs in the making: Kent's Young Chef Award 2010

The two winners of the Kent Young Chef Award 2010, the brainchild of Produced in Kent, were guests of honour at Woods Restaurant in Tunbridge Wells after devising and helping prepare a three-course charity dinner for 60 guests in aid of Kent Air Ambulance.

Junior title winner Thomas Perkins, 11, of Holmesdale Technology College in Snodland and Senior winner Steven Yap, 16, of The New School at West Heath, joined other diners as they tucked into leek and potato soup, followed by a quails egg, mushroom and cheese starter. Haunch of venison, served with a beetroot and parsnip pure followed, with Gypsy and Braeburn apple tart to finish.

Woods Restaurant, a sponsor of the Kent Young Chef Award, together with Hadlow College and kff (Kent Frozen Foods), donated 5 for each of the 60 paying guests, raising 300 for the Kent Air Ambulance.

Kent Young Chef Award 2011 launches in September and is open to all school children in Kent in Year Groups 7-11.
