Friday 14 November marks the start of the festive season at Kent’s very own Bluewater, Europe’s leading fashion, leisure and events destination, with its annual Christmas light spectacular

The official Christmas Light Switch On event will feature a stunning light display bringing breath-taking fireworks, choreographed lasers, lights, flames and multimedia experiences to dazzle the whole family in the lead up to the festive season. Our much-loved, iconic reindeers will also be brought to life through illumination to greet guests as they arrive at Bluewater.

Not to be missed, the Christmas Light Night will begin at 6.30 pm, with the celebration being kicked off by Heart radio presenter, Toby Anstis. Toby will also be joined on stage by Santa himself who is making a special guest appearance at Bluewater, before opening his grotto on 27 November. The show will last for approximately 45 minutes ensuring there is plenty of time to head back inside and crack on with that all-important Christmas shopping.

The Christmas Light Night marks the start of extended Christmas shopping hours at Bluewater making this festive season’s shopping easier than ever before. From 14 November, Bluewater will extend its opening hours from 9am – 10pm. From 8 December, shoppers will have an extra hour to find the ultimate Christmas gift with all retailers keeping their doors open until 11pm.

As well as starburst displays at the Christmas Night Light event, there will be a twinkling 15ft Christmas tree at the Moon Court (by Marks and Spencer) to support local charities across Kent, Sussex and Surrey.

The launch of the Giving Tree aims to sprinkle joy to those less fortunate. The initiative encourages visitors to pick a gift tag from the tree and buy a Christmas gift for an under privileged child. Each gift tag details the name and age of a child to help shoppers buy a gift that’s suited to the child. Shoppers can then drop the gift off in the secure collection zone near the Christmas tree.

The gifts will be collated and distributed to charities including the Demelza Hospice, The Royal British Legion, The Rocking Horse Children’s Centre and Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice so they reach disadvantaged children and make a difference ahead of Christmas this year.

Tickets are on sale now for all of the fantastic Christmas events taking place at Bluewater this winter including Santa’s Grotto and real ice-skating rink at the Winter Wonderland. Booking in advance is advised to avoid disappointment due to high demand.
