Wandering through a festive market with mulled wine in hand is one of the pleasures of the season, so we have picked some of Kent’s best Christmas markets to do just that

- Rochester Christmas Market

Fri-Sun 30 Nov-15 Dec. Rides are £1, activities are half price

What could be more festive than a Christmas market in the grounds of the historic Rochester Castle? With a cup of mulled wine in hand, be greeted by the scent of roasting chestnuts as you wander around the Bavarian food village and stalls selling high quality gifts and maybe sampling some Christmas treats from local producers.

There will be a traditional fun fair too. Check the website for opening times as they vary throughout the season.

- Rochester Dickensian Christmas

7-8 Dec

Visitors to Rochester will feel like they've stepped back in time this Christmas at the Dickensian Christmas fair taking place at Rochester Castle during the Christmas Market.

In celebration of Charles Dickens' time spent in Medway (1817 - 1822), this event will see lantern parades, traditional carol singing and plenty of dressed up characters from the writer's ever popular tales. Expect to see the likes of Ebenezer Scrooge, Miss Havisham and Tiny Tim.

- Faversham Christmas Lights Night Food Market

23 Nov

Held in tandem with the switching on of the market town's Christmas lights, Faversham Christmas Lights Night Food Market begins after the 5pm switch on. Expect a night of local food and drink with a yuletide twist and plenty to see as well with music and dancing.

- Faversham Christmas Market

8, 15 & 22 Dec, 10am - 4pm

The Guildhall will be illuminated with festive lighting along with the rest of the famous market place for three special festive instalments for the Faversham Christmas Market. Local produce, handmade gifts and mulled wine will be in abundance. There will also be live music with a brass band and carollers that are sure to delight the whole family.

- The Christmas Market at Leeds Castle

Weekends from 23 Nov - 15 Dec

Leeds Castle's Christmas market is a must visit. Held on the lawn overlooked by the historic castle, this market is a great option if you are bringing along the kids. With a vintage style fairground and the chance to meet some reindeer and see some falconry too, keep the family happy while checking out the gifts, toys and decorations in the wooden chalets.

- Tenterden Christmas Market

22-24 Nov

The streets of Tenterden will be bustling with festive shoppers again this year, with traditional market stalls selling Christmas gifts, decorations and crafts alongside artisan food producers perfect to grab bits for the Christmas Day spread. The lights will be switched on on Friday afternoon, adding to the seasonal atmosphere created by carollers and street entertainment.

- Whitefriars Christmas Market, Canterbury

22 Nov - 24 Dec

Whitefriars Shopping Centre on Gravel Walk in Canterbury will be hosting an exciting Christmas market to celebrate the yuletide. With over 70 German market-style cabins selling everything from gifts and toys to tasty seasonal food and drink, this event is sure to get you in the festive spirit.

In the courtyard at the former home of Winston Churchill, the Chartwell Christmas Market will be held. With the historic house as a backdrop, this will be a festive occasion that's perfect to grab a gift and warm up with some food and drink in the covered market.
