Long, cold, dark nights are drawing in, but a Spanish Wine Tasting and Tapas evening run by Sussex Wine School at The Brew House Hotel is bound to warm up winter in Tunbridge Wells


Held on Wednesday (28 November) at The Old School House from 7pm-9pm, attendees will discover one of the worlds most exciting wine regions. Two types of sherry, dubbed the trendy drink of the moment and six other wines from Spain's best known and up-and-coming regions will be tasted, each matched with carefully chosen tapas.


Jonny Gibson from Sussex Wine School explains: Spanish wine is experiencing a resurgence, as younger generations in the country are choosing to study winemaking at university. Armed with the knowledge they need, they are buying forgotten plots of land cheaply in old regions and rediscovering 100 year-old gnarled vines that produce wines with the most beautiful flavours.


Spanish reds are hard to beat wine from the Mencia grape and Bierzo region is particularly good, as are those from Jumila and Yecla using the native Monastrell grape. Toro wines using the Tinta do Toro grape and Monstant reds from the Carinana grape are also excellent. Thats all Im giving away - for more tips youll have to attend the class!
