  • 300g Self Raising flour
  • 400g Caster Sugar
  • 50g Cocoa Powder
  • 285g Butter, melted
  • 135g Beetroot, cooked and grated
  • 4 Eggs, beaten
  • 125ml Milk
  • 2tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Filling
  • 50g Cream Cheese
  • 12tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 225g Icing Sugar


The Cake Nest share their recipe for a Valentine’s chocolate cake

• Preheat oven to 180ºC Gas Mark 4 and grease two 7” round cake tins
• Combine all the dry cake ingredients together - flour, sugar, cocoa powder
• Mix the wet ingredients together - butter, eggs, milk
• Place dry and wet ingredients together and mix well
• Add the beetroot, stir until evenly distributed
• Split mixture between evenly between the two tins and bake for 25-30 minutes 
• Turn out and allow cool completely before icing
• To make the filling, whisk the ingredients together until fluffy
• Smooth over the top of one cake and place the other on top
• Dust with icing sugar

This cake can be used to make cake pops, rather than a traditional shaped cake, as in the image below.
