Michelin-starred culinary heroes raise thousands for spinal injury charity
Some £16,000 was raised in a silent auction for The Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation at A Night of the Kent Chefs held at Chapter One restaurant, Locksbottom. Michelin-starred chefs Steve Harris (The Sportsman), Dan Hatton (Thackerays), Graham Garrett (The West House), Tim Johnson (Apicius) and host chef Andy McLeish of Chapter One delighted diners with a seven-course menu of Kent’s finest treats, ranging from Whistable Rock Oysters to wild seabass, Chart Farm sika venison to Kentish rhubarb. The Big Five, who gave their time for free, had even gone huntin’ and shootin’ in pursuit of the finest ingredients and were rewarded by guests digging deep to bid for prizes that included deer stalking at Chart Farm followed by lunch at Chapter One, and the top prize: Andrew McLeish, Graham Garrett – and surprise guest chef on the night, Gary Rhodes – cooking dinner at your own home; Gary even volunteered to do the washing up. NSIF was founded by chef David Nicholls following an accident on Bondi Beach which left his son, Daniel, paralysed. The charity David set up is focused on raising money in order to fund innovative medical research that all its supporters hope will lead to a repair and cure for spinal cord injury. For every £10 you donate, NSIF receives almost £12: http://www.justgiving.com/nsif
