Our featured property this month is a magnificent country house, thought to date from the late 19th century, and set in 6.5 acres of landscaped parkland.

As you can see from the pictures, a wealth of features typical of the Victorian era in which Homefield was built still remain, including heavy panelled wooden doors, polished oak flooring and, of particular note, the marble fireplaces which appear throughout.

Four main reception rooms all enjoy stunning views over the garden and grounds, and together with an impressive reception hall, provide excellent areas for formal entertaining.

An elegant staircase leads from the reception hall to a galleried landing. The master suite benefits from a well-appointed en-suite and two dressing rooms, and of the six further bedrooms on the first floor, two feature en-suite bathrooms.

Arranged over the remainder of the first floor is a kitchen and sitting room, with the kitchen/breakfast room offering a substantial open-plan family area, suitable for informal entertaining and incorporating a range of fitted cupboards and a central island unit.

The library features British Canadian pine wall paneling, and the ceiling has been designed with an intricate relief moulding depicting Newton’s ‘Theory of Rotation of Planets.’

For active families, it is perhaps the sports-oriented features that would appeal the most. An indoor pool, loosely based around the architectural design of the Crystal Palace features columns, a domed glass ceiling and flagstone flooring. Three hand-painted murals by Jackie Pestell decorate the walls, and there is also access to a walk-in shower, a changing room and cloakroom. A floodlit tennis court and a timber croquet pavilion complete the sporting facilities.

The landscaped gardens and grounds are a fine feature of the property, offering both a charming setting and privacy and seclusion. To the west of the house lies a formal rose garden with ornamental box hedging, and to the east an attractive walled courtyard with wall-mounted fountain.

Homefield occupies a semi-rural position with superb views, and is ideally located for both road and rail communications. Just seven miles from the busy town of Sevenoaks, there is an excellent choice of leading independent schools, and local sports facilities incorporate rugby, cricket, hockey football and golf.
