Lydd Airshow attracts 25,000 visitors

Around 25,000 visitors attended the Lydd Airshow at London Ashford Airport – topping the total for the first-ever Lydd Airshow in 2006.

Fine weather and world-class air and ground displays combined to draw huge crowds to the airport on Romney Marsh and part of the proceeds from ticket and programme sales are being given to Lydd Primary School and to The Mission Aviation Fellowship.

Highlights included the RAF Falcons parachute team, the Swift Glider, the Blue Eagles, the legendary Sally B WWII US bomber, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the intrepid Team Guinot wing-walkers. Families were also entertained by a full programme of ground and arena events, including strong man contests and cheerleading dancers.

Airshow organiser Lisa Duncan said: “The success of the Lydd Airshow is a testimony to the hard work and dedication of the airport team in making the event such a big hit. It is remarkable that in just two years Lydd has succeeded in establishing itself as a major fixture on the annual airshow calendar in Britain.”
