BARKAWAY’S BUTCHERS

WINNER: BEST BUTCHER

Chris Barkaway

Tell us about your business

Our family business was first established in the 1850s, and is now run by Chris Barkaway and his son Paul, who are the 5th and 6th generations of the family to run the business.

We have two retail outlets, one in West Street, Faversham, and the other on the A2 in Ospringe, both supplying the general public and numerous catering outlets, including pubs and restaurants, with a complete range of locally sourced fresh meats, home-made pies and award-winning sausages.

How do you feel about winning?

We are delighted to have won the class this time around after being runner up last year, as it is our customers that actually vote for us to be put forward for the final selection by a panel of judges. So we feel that we must be providing a high-quality product and service to our customers for them to vote, which it’s always nice to be reassured and complimented on.

What do you think makes you a winner?

We have always prided ourselves in providing our customers with the highest quality locally sourced available to us. The vast majority of our meat is hand picked from the farms and selected personally to ensure the highest possible quality, consistency and traceability.

What are your plans for the future?

We endeavour to continually provide a first-rate service to all of our customers, including a free weekly delivery service in the local area. As members of the Q-Guild, we frequently have the opportunity to share product ideas with numerous other top-quality butchers, which we can bring to our shops.
