Arguably the most important house in the conservation area of Sandgate, Endcliffe House was believed to have been built in 1838 for Lord Radnor, although other notable figures -including the Mayor of Folkestone and Commander C E Neate - also lived here.

Set with commanding views of the English Channel and Hythe Bay, Endcliffe House is an enchanting Grade II listed Regency ‘mini mansion’ overlooking Sandgate village with its picturesque 17th-century fishermen’s cottages.

Recently extensively refurbished, the house retains a host of original and special features, and is approached through wrought-iron gates and up a gravel driveway,

Natural light
The imposing and airy entrance hall is finished in polished Italian marble, and a sweeping staircase leads to a galleried landing under an octagonal lantern, which floods the stairwell and hall with natural light. The dining room leads from the hall, its most startling feature being an astonishing Austrian crystal, 28-bulb chandelier.

Upstairs, with an en-suite bathroom and views to France, the master bedroom is certainly not short on luxury and if you’re having guests, no problem – there’s a guest annexe with its own sitting room and kitchen/dining room, making a total of five bedrooms.

Endcliffe House’s kitchen is a bespoke creation, leading off the Orangery (yes, your own Orangery) and it incorporates a host of built-in appliances and Provencal-style wall and floor tiling.

Naturally, there is a wine cellar and working Butler’s safe, and the whole property is protected by a sophisticated security system.

Outside, a sun terrace overlooking the sea is an excellent place to relax on balmy evenings, and the many flowerbeds are planted with a variety of Mediterranean plants and palms. A further sun lawn, rose border, elevated terrace lawn and wooden decked sun terrace should keep the gardener busy, and there’s even a potting shed and a gardener’s WC.
