Tell us about yourself
My name is Leon Camier, I’m 21 years old and live in Beatherstone in Ashford. My parents live abroad but come over for every British Superbike (BSB) race to watch me and my 19-year-old brother Alex, who races in Superstock.
I went to Homewood School in Tenterden, but I have to admit education was not my priority and I left at 16. All I ever wanted to do was race, so I didn’t go to sixth form as my racing career had already started taking off by then.
What are you doing now?
I am a full-time British Superbike rider, and all the time I’m not racing I’m training and preparing for the next race, and the rest of the season.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I want to win BSB and eventually MotoGP - I think that’s probably every racer’s ambition and it has been mine for as long as I can remember.
What’s the best thing about living in Kent?
Kent is a really pretty county, and as I spend a lot of time out and about training on my push bike, I would say that is probably the coolest thing. I couldn’t handle living in a big city, the cycle routes must be so dull!
What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy the odd round of golf with friends, as well as cycling, mountain biking, trials and snowboarding when I can. As you can tell, I am not too good at sitting still and I always like to be doing something, preferably outside and a little bit crazy!
What was the last book you read?
Muhammad Ali’s book, Soul of a Butterfly, which I really enjoyed. He is amazing and achieved so much in his sporting life. He’s a bit of an idol, so reading such an insight into him was really interesting.
