Shopping for gifts on the high street can be daunting so we have compiled a list of Kent’s Christmas markets to inspire you this festive season
What could be more festive than a Christmas Market overlooked by the historic Rochester Castle? Take in the festive smells of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine as you explore the stalls of Rochester Christmas Market. There will be live music playing and a Bavarian village display to enjoy as you sip on your hot chocolate. Meet your favourite characters at the Rochester Dickens Festival on the 3rd and 4th of December for an exciting Victorian themed Christmas event. You will find gifts, craft fairs, and local producers selling seasonal fare to make your holiday season unique.

Faversham marketplace is renowned for being the oldest in Kent, with visitors flooding to find local produce, antiques, homeware and much more. This year the Faversham Christmas Market is back in action with a plethora of festive goodies on offer. There will be plenty of gifts to browse through while you listen to Christmas carols and a brass band playing all overlooked by the iconic Guildhall. 11th and 18th of December
Keeping with the historical theme, Leeds Castle’s Christmas market is a must see. Held on Cedar Lawn overlooking the castle itself this market is a great option if you are bringing along the kids. With a fairground and even a chance to meet some reindeer, keep the family happy whilst you check out the Christmas gifts, toys and decorations. Open on weekends from the 5th of December right up to the 23rd.
If you still need to brave the high street for little extras then why not head along to Tenterden Christmas market. Held in the High Street it offers market stalls, street food, carols, street entertainment and even a Santa’s grotto. Enjoy all the ambiance of a traditional Christmas market whilst checking out the ‘best dressed window’ competition set up by the Tenterden Chamber of Commerce. Previous years have been a huge success with thousands of people turning up to enjoy the festivities. This is a one day only event on Saturday the 5th of December from 10am to 8pm.
5. Whitefriars Christmas Market, Canterbury
Whitefriars Shopping Centre on Gravel Walk in Canterbury will be hosting an exciting Christmas market to celebrate the yuletide. With over 40 German market-style cabins selling everything from gifts and toys to tasty seasonal food and drink, this event is sure to get you in the festive spirit. The market will take place from Saturday 26th November until Saturday 24th December.

What could be more festive than a visit to the dramatic Whitstable Castle for its Christmas Food Festival? There will be Santa’s craft workshops, festive tunes from the “Useless Pluckers Ukelele Band”, a visit for children to Santa’s grotto (£5 per child) and of course, plenty of seasonal and locally produced Christmas food and drink to make your Christmas season feasts that little bit more special. Sunday 11th December.
Taking place at Whitstable Junior School on Oxford Street in Whitstable is Tankerton Christmas Market. Gluhwein will be flowing and stollen will be in abundance as you wander through the historic school building, browsing the stalls and indulging in some warming festive food and drink along the way. Sunday 4th December, 10.30pm – 4pm.
There will be so much happening at this year’s Dover Christmas Market. Grab a hot chocolate or mulled wine to warm your hands as you soak in the festive atmosphere in the centre of Dover. Saturday 3rd December, 11am – 6pm
Taking place throughout December, the Christmas Elfxtravaganza at Groombridge Place is shaping up to be a day chock full of festive activities including events for children including gingerbread decoration, treasure hunts and writing letters to Santa. This is also a chance to get some Christmas gifts at the festive stalls along with plenty of yuletide food and drink including mulled wine, popcorn, candy floss and more. The Groombridge Café will be serving special Christmas cake, mince pies along with teas and coffees to warm up visitors afterwards. 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 17th – 23rd December from 10am until 4pm
With proceeds going to The Pickering Cancer Drop-In Centre and Penshurst Church, Penshurst Christmas Market will be taking place on the high street that will come alive with Christmas cheer. There will be lots of entertainment including musical performances from Tunbridge Wells Ukelele Night Thing, dance from Penshurst Irish Dancers and much more. Friday 2nd December, 12pm – 9pm and Saturday 3rd December, 9am – 3pm
Held at Creek Creative Studios is this year’s Christmas Craft Fair with jewellery, art, photographs, cards, ceramics and plenty of unique gifts that are sure to please loved ones on Christmas morning. 3rd and 4th December, 10am – 4pm
After Gravesend’s Borough Market’s refurbishment, there will be a special Christmas market with stalls overflowing with festive gifts, treats, food and drink. There will be entertainment in the streets throughout the day. Saturday 3rd December, 10am – 6pm
Enjoy seasonal stalls and a tea room serving festive treats at The Alexander Centre in Faversham. There will also be a Santa’s Grotto for the kids to meet the big man himself. 17th and 18th December, Santa’s Grotto 9.30am to 6.30pm, Christmas Market 10am – 6pm
There will be European-style wooden chalets set up in Maidstone’s Jubilee Square for Maidstone Christmas Market selling a wide variety of festive treats. From seasonal food and drink to decorations and unique gifts to buy, this is a great day out and runs all the way up until 22nd December. Open from 26th November
15. Sevenoaks Christmas Market
Taking place in the Vine Gardens in Sevenoaks is this year’s Sevenoaks Christmas Market with three days of festivities including stalls with food, drink and gifts and entertainment to ring in the festive season. 9th until 11th December, 9am – 7pm
Don’t worry if you have missed a few gifts or some Christmas Day lunch essentials because Tunbridge Wells Farmer’s Market will be holding a Christmas Special event with Christmas trees to buy, carol singers, festive lights, a raffer, mulled cider, a hog roast and much more. There will be lots of local, seasonal produce to buy from Kentish artisans including cheese, fruit and veg, cakes and alcohol. 22nd December, 9am – 2pm
